About the role
Arm's Physical IP Division develops Physical IP that is extensively used by SoC designers around the world to build sophisticated, high-performance chips on groundbreaking process nodes. The Design Enablement team within Solutions Engineering - Implementation builds and maintains software tools and automated EDA flows used to develop, validate, and deliver custom cells and custom macros. As a Graduate Software Engineer, you will write Java/Python code with Tcl, Bash or tcsh automation, support scalable EDA workloads on-premises and in the cloud, and collaborate with experienced software engineers and circuit designers across Arm's global engineering sites.
What you will do
- Develop and sustain software applications and automated workflows that support custom cells and custom macro development and validation.
- Write clear, maintainable code in Java or Python, with supporting automation in Tcl, Bash, or tcsh.
- Work with circuit designers and software engineers to understand requirements and implement practical solutions.
- Help integrate new build methodologies and EDA tools into Custom Cells workflows.
- Support efficient, scalable, and parallel execution of EDA workloads in on-premises and cloud environments.
- Write unit, integration, and regression tests, investigate failures, and debug software issues.
- Participate in code reviews, document changes, and provide support to engineering users.
Skills used in this role
What the employer is looking for
- Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Information Science, Electronics and Communication Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Good programming skills in Java, Python, or both, including object-oriented programming and data structures.
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills, with attention to software quality and accuracy.
- Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
- Familiarity with software development fundamentals, including version control and automated testing.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience or coursework in Tcl and Unix shell scripting, including Bash or tcsh.
- Familiarity with Linux or Unix development environments.
- Basic understanding of digital electronics, semiconductor design flows, or Physical IP.
- Exposure to EDA tools or batch-computing and job-scheduling environments such as IBM Platform LSF.
