About the role

The Plant Engineering team at Mahindra & Mahindra supports automotive manufacturing through stamping and BIW process engineering. The role covers press tool and fixture design, die and press selection, trials, and quality compliance for new product development and design changes. It works with CAD tools, suppliers, and production teams to implement tooling and process improvements.

What you will do

  • Develop and improve stamping processes for new product development and design modifications, applying value engineering principles.
  • Design stamping dies using CATIA (2D/3D), UG NX, AutoCAD and DelCAM, with strong knowledge of die types, materials and elements.
  • Analyse panel defects, perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions to improve component quality.
  • Evaluate press suitability based on tonnage, shut height and operating parameters; calculate tonnage considering shear and tensile stress.
  • Manage RFQs, supplier coordination, procurement, press selection, trials and implementation.
  • Lead modification and refurbishment of existing dies through scanning, feasibility studies and improvement proposals.
  • Conduct Die Approval Process (DAP), including static/dynamic buyoffs, die inspections, part location and ejection checks.
  • Coordinate home-line trials/buyoffs and implement corrective actions for identified concerns.
  • Prepare and maintain process sheets, control plans, DCP documentation, BOMs in SAP and Equipment Notices (EN).
  • Manage PPRF soft/hard tooling, PCRN and PDRN, ensuring facility readiness and effective monitoring.
  • Ensure compliance with TS-16949, APQP, PPAP and PFMEA requirements.
  • Plan budgets for tooling and press-shop spares and ensure long-term sustainability.
  • Conduct capacity planning by balancing production requirements with available resources.
  • Provide technical expertise in BIW manufacturing processes for new product development and design changes.
  • Design BIW fixtures using CATIA, IDEAS, UG NX 10 and AutoCAD, including 3D surface modelling and assembly principles such as degrees of freedom and 3-2-1 location methodology.
  • Apply knowledge of fixture elements including screw threads, compression springs, pneumatic circuits and PLC systems.
  • Develop panel and assembly checking fixtures, including Go/No-Go hole and thread gauges, in accordance with GD&T and IS standards.
  • Analyse BIW assembly defects, conduct root-cause analysis and implement robust corrective solutions.
  • Perform weld-gun feasibility studies using 3D modelling to assess accessibility and optimise parameters.
  • Manage the complete fixture lifecycle, including RFQ, supplier coordination, refurbishment, DAP approval, M1/M2/M3 inspection, buyoff, installation and trial corrections.
  • Create and maintain process sheets, control plans, BOMs and EN documentation.
  • Manage budgets and provisioning for tooling and fixture spares to support continuous improvement and long-term Body Shop sustainability.
  • Conduct capacity planning by integrating demand requirements with available shop-floor capacity.
  • Apply hands-on expertise in metal/alloy selection, fabrication, assembly and adjustment of dies, jigs, gauges and tools.
  • Operate conventional and CNC machine tools for production, finishing and maintenance of tooling components.
