About the role
The Tax Technology Automations & Innovation team — known internally as the AI Team — builds the automations, Generative AI, and internal tooling that let DoorDash's global Tax function scale across the US, Canada, and internationally through Wolt and Deliveroo, turning manual tax work into reliable, governed software. The team is organised into an AI Strategy function and three regional pillars (EMEA, US & Canada, and Coffee & Special Projects), with this role sitting in AI Strategy and reporting to the Tax Technology lead. This role sets the technical and AI direction for the pillars, architecting LLM/GenAI and data automation solutions for tax workflows, owning the AI and automation governance framework, and mentoring analysts and managers across regions.
What you will do
- Define and lead the GenAI strategy for the Tax function, identifying high-value use cases and setting adoption standards.
- Architect and deploy enterprise-grade AI solutions — intelligent assistants, AI-driven classification, anomaly detection, automated audit support, document summarization, and retrieval-augmented reporting.
- Own the AI and automation governance framework — model risk, change control, testing and validation standards, documentation, and auditability for tools that touch tax data and filings.
- Set the rules for responsible, controlled AI use, including data privacy, data residency, and what data may be sent to external model providers, partnering with InfoSec, Internal Audit, and Compliance.
- Partner with senior Tax, Product, and Engineering leaders to drive requirements and deliver measurable business impact.
- Mentor the Senior Analysts and Associate Managers across all regional pillars on applying GenAI/LLMs effectively and within governance guardrails.
- Quantify, track, and communicate the business impact of AI solutions (efficiency gains, error reduction, compliance risk mitigation).
Skills used in this role
What the employer is looking for
- You have 8+ years of hands-on experience in AI, GenAI, and data automation, delivering production-grade solutions at scale.
- You have deep expertise in LLMs and GenAI techniques — prompt engineering, fine-tuning, RAG, evaluation frameworks, conversational AI, classification, and summarization.
- You are advanced in Python and SQL and have built scalable AI and automation pipelines.
- You have a strong background in automation and applied analytics, ideally in tax, finance, or regulated industries.
- You have deployed AI in cloud data environments such as Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, or Databricks.
- You have expertise in AI governance, compliance, and risk management for regulated environments.
- You can translate complex AI capabilities into intuitive tools for non-technical users, and influence at all levels from hands-on teams to executives.
- You have a Bachelor's degree or higher.
Preferred qualifications
- You have (preferably) knowledge of tax technology platforms or experience with global tax teams
- You have (preferably) experience in a high-growth technology, marketplace, or e-commerce company.
