About the role

Within GRC, the Treasury Risk Oversight Group is the independent risk management team covering all financial risks undertaken by the Treasury function at American Express, designing and executing risk measurement and controls across balance sheet management areas including funding and liquidity risk, market risk, and capital management. The Analyst Treasury Risk Oversight provides independent oversight and effective challenge of liquidity risk management across American Express and American Express National Bank (AENB), working closely with senior management and business units to ensure effective identification, assessment, and mitigation of market risks.

What you will do

  • Identify, analyze, and quantify liquidity risk exposures.
  • Implement liquidity risk management strategies, policies, and procedures in alignment with the organization's risk appetite, regulatory requirements, and leading practices.
  • Leverage analytical frameworks for independent risk assessment and deliver effective challenge on critical processes including Liquidity Stress Testing, Funding Plan, Intraday Liquidity Management, Cash Flow Forecasting and Asset-Liability Management.
  • Calibrate and monitor limits and escalation thresholds to ensure that all material market risks are mitigated and maintained within risk tolerance.
  • Perform independent reviews of key treasury risk management processes.
  • Support the Manager, Treasury Risk in executing ongoing oversight, monitoring, and risk assessment activities.
  • Manage the risk appetite framework, senior management communications, and committee/Board reporting for the market risk pillar.
  • Monitor trends, market developments, and regulatory changes to proactively identify emerging risks and opportunities for risk mitigation and optimization.
  • Foster a strong risk culture and awareness of liquidity risk throughout the organization through training, communication, and knowledge sharing initiatives.

What the employer is looking for

  • In-depth knowledge of risk management processes, metrics, analytics, systems, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Prior experience in risk management or finance. Exposure to asset-liability management (ALM), liquidity risk management, stress testing. LCR/NSFR is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, combined with rigorous analytical and problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to translate complex and disparate information into comprehensive and cohesive messaging for senior leadership, committees, audit, and regulators.
  • Proactive in identifying issues, escalating key findings, and advising on recommended solutions to mitigate risks in a timely fashion.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Graduate degree in Finance, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Econometrics, Business Administration, Operations Research, Engineering, or a related fields
  • Knowledge of SQL, Python, and Bloomberg
  • CFA or FRM designation is a plus.
