About the role
IBM Infrastructure & Technology designs and operates systems including high-resiliency mainframes, hybrid cloud platforms, networking, automation, and site reliability. The team builds enterprise-class runtime and transaction-processing software with C/C++ and Unix/socket programming. This role designs, develops, debugs, tests, and maintains TXSeries runtime components and resolves production issues.
What you will do
- Design, develop, debug, test, and maintain high-performance TXSeries runtime and transaction-processing components.
- Take ownership of assigned features and components from requirements analysis through implementation, testing, and delivery.
- Develop reliable, scalable, and efficient systems software to support enterprise-class workloads.
- Independently analyze and resolve moderately complex technical problems and production issues.
- Evaluate technical alternatives and recommend optimal solutions based on business and product requirements.
- Contribute to product enhancements, engineering improvements, and overall software quality initiatives.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including development, test, support, and product management.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and technical decision-making.
- Share technical expertise and best practices with the team and mentor less-experienced developers.
- Drive continuous improvement in product performance, maintainability, and reliability.

- C/C++ Systems Programming Strong proficiency in C/C++ for developing high-performance backend and runtime components.
- Experience with low-level systems programming, memory management, and performance optimization.
- Unix/Socket Programming Hands-on experience with network programming, inter-process communication, and client-server architectures.
- Debugging and Problem Determination Strong troubleshooting skills with experience using dbx and other debugging tools on AIX environments.
- Ability to analyze core dumps, memory issues, and runtime failures.
- Database and Messaging Concepts Understanding of relational databases ((DB2 and Oracle),, transaction management, and message-oriented middleware (MQ).
- Distributed Transaction Processing Knowledge of XA-compliant transaction processing and Two-Phase Commit (2PC) protocols.
- Understanding of transaction coordination between databases and messaging systems.
- SNA Communication Server Familiarity with IBM SNA CommServer concepts and legacy enterprise connectivity protocols.
- COBOL Programming - Basic knowledge of COBOL application development and debugging to support customer workloads and runtime integration
