About the role
Honeywell is hiring a Senior Test Automation Engineer to work within an Agile product development environment alongside Development, QA/Test, Product, and DevOps teams. The role spans both test automation and functional testing for web and enterprise applications, using Selenium, Playwright, Python, TypeScript, and Java within CI/CD workflows built on GitHub and GitHub Actions. It is a hands-on engineering position focused on building scalable automation frameworks, defining test strategies, and driving quality throughout the software development lifecycle.
What you will do
- Design, develop, maintain, and enhance automated test frameworks and test suites for web and enterprise applications.
- Develop reliable and maintainable automation using Selenium and/or Playwright.
- Write automation code using Python, TypeScript, and/or Java.
- Perform functional, integration, regression, system, and end-to-end testing as required.
- Analyze product requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and technical designs to identify appropriate test coverage.
- Develop comprehensive Test Strategies, Test Plans, test scenarios, and test cases based on functional and technical requirements.
- Define the appropriate balance between automated and manual/functional testing based on risk, complexity, and business impact.
- Identify opportunities to improve automation coverage, test execution efficiency, reliability, and defect detection.
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and work with tools such as GitHub and GitHub Actions.
- Investigate automation failures, perform root-cause analysis, and distinguish between application defects, environment issues, test-data issues, and automation defects.
- Participate actively in Agile ceremonies including Sprint Planning, Backlog Refinement, Daily Stand-ups, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives.
- Collaborate effectively with Developers, Test Engineers, Product Owners/Product Managers, and DevOps Engineers to ensure quality throughout the development lifecycle.
- Participate in defect triage and communicate quality risks, dependencies, blockers, and release-readiness concerns clearly to stakeholders.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of the team's testing processes, automation architecture, coding standards, and overall quality engineering practices.
- Use modern AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot to improve engineering productivity while following appropriate code-review, security, and quality practices.
- Mentor and support other test engineers by sharing automation and quality engineering best practices.
Skills used in this role
What the employer is looking for
- 7+ years of professional experience in Software Testing / Quality Engineering, including significant hands-on experience in automation.
- Strong expertise in Test Automation and automation framework development.
- Strong hands-on experience with Selenium and/or Playwright.
- Strong programming/scripting skills in at least one of the following: Python, TypeScript, Java.
- Strong experience in Functional Testing, including requirements analysis, test design, test execution, defect identification, and regression testing.
- Experience designing and documenting a comprehensive Test Strategy for a product, application, release, or major feature.
- Good understanding of SDLC, STLC, Agile, and Scrum practices.
- Experience working within Agile/Scrum teams and delivering quality software across multiple sprints/releases.
- Hands-on experience with Git and GitHub for source-control and collaborative development.
- Experience with GitHub Actions or equivalent CI/CD solutions for automated test execution.
- Exposure to GitHub Copilot or other AI-assisted software engineering/testing tools.
- Ability to analyze automation failures and debug issues across application, automation, API, test-data, and environment layers.
- Good understanding of test design techniques, defect lifecycle, regression strategy, risk-based testing, and test coverage.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively across Development, QA, Product, and DevOps teams.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical issues and quality risks clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related engineering discipline from a recognised institution.
- Can write automation code, not just execute automated suites.
- Has strong functional testing fundamentals in addition to automation expertise.
- Can independently define a test strategy and approach for complex features.
- Understands quality throughout the complete software development lifecycle.
- Can identify what should be automated and what requires exploratory or functional testing.
- Is comfortable reviewing requirements and challenging gaps in acceptance criteria and testability.
- Can work closely with developers to identify defects early rather than relying only on end-of-sprint testing.
- Can collaborate with Product teams to understand customer/business expectations and with DevOps teams to enable reliable automated testing within CI/CD.
- Demonstrates ownership, technical depth, attention to detail, and a quality-first mindset.
- Communicates clearly, constructively, and confidently across cross-functional teams.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with API testing and API automation, for example REST APIs.
- Experience integrating test automation into CI/CD pipelines.
- Understanding of modern automation patterns such as Page Object Model, fixtures, reusable test components, test-data management, and parallel execution.
- Experience with test reporting and automated quality metrics.
- Exposure to testing applications deployed using cloud and containerized environments.
- Experience using AI-assisted tools for test-case generation, automation-code development, code review, debugging, or test analysis.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers or providing technical guidance on test automation.
- Familiarity with non-functional quality considerations such as performance, security, accessibility, reliability, and usability testing would be an advantage.
Benefits and support
- Compensation and benefits are detailed in the job posting
