About the role

GE Vernova's Systems Engineering team at the John F. Welch Technology Centre in Bangalore works on power systems engineering for renewable generation, energy storage, HVDC and FACTS applications. The role involves building and parameterizing simulation models in tools such as PSS/E, PSCAD and DIgSILENT PowerFactory, and performing transient, dynamic and planning studies for large utility systems. The engineer also communicates analysis results to internal and external customers and represents the company in industry forums.

What you will do

  • Perform technical analysis related to power electronic and power systems control of renewable generation, battery energy storage systems, large industrial drives, HVDC and FACTS.
  • Support customers with power systems engineering expertise; including modeling, analysis, equipment design and specification, and failure mode analysis
  • Create, modify and parametrize simulation models representing electrical equipment like gas turbines, wind turbines, solar inverters, battery storage and their controls in PSS/E, PSCAD, DIgSILENT Power Factory
  • Perform power system planning studies, renewable integration studies, feasibility studies for HVDC and FACTS, Energy Storage etc. for large utility systems
  • Effectively communicate results to both internal and external customers by preparing detailed written reports or presentations describing analyses performed, solutions developed, and customer value propositions
  • Enhance industry knowledge and present technical content in regional forums and conferences; serve as a thought leader in industry activities

  • Willingness to travel to support project work (up to 10%)

Skills used in this role

What the employer is looking for

  • Master’s Degree in electrical engineering or electric power engineering
  • Minimum 2-3 years of Industry experience performing transient analysis using simulation tools like ATP/EMTP, PSCAD/EMTDC and EMTP-RV and/Or steady state and dynamic analysis using large data base simulation tools like PSS/E, PowerFactory, PSLF
  • Experience with the use and application of common programming languages (e.g. Python, FORTRAN, C, C++)

Preferred qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills (e.g. ability to effectively communicate with all levels of GE and customer/plant staff)
  • Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering, electric power engineering, or related field of study
  • Industry reputation, prior IEEE/CIGRE published articles related to practical power systems engineering topics, participation in industry standards working groups
  • Experience creating and modifying dynamic user models in simulation tools like PSS/E, PSCAD, PowerFactory and PSLF
  • Knowledge of Grid codes of Major utilities in Asia, Australia and Middle East and exposure to Grid code compliance studies
  • Advanced experience with dynamic and time-domain simulation tools (e.g. FORTRAN programming of user-written “black box” models in PSCAD, use of MATLAB or Python scripting to automate execution and analysis of multiple simulations)
  • Demonstrated application of complex mathematics and engineering to real-world electric power system problems

Benefits and support

  • Relocation Assistance Provided: Yes
