About the role
GE HealthCare is a global medical technology and digital solutions innovator, and this role sits within its electronics component engineering function supporting products across multiple modalities. The team drives cost productivity, value creation, and supply risk mitigation by evaluating and qualifying alternate electronic components. This individual contributor will independently lead cross-functional productivity programs, assess form-fit-function alternates, support PCBA redesign and BOM cost optimization, and manage component lifecycle and obsolescence risk for installed base and NPI programs.
What you will do
- Partner with Engineering, Product Sourcing, and Commodity Sourcing teams to identify and implement electronic component cost reduction and value creation opportunities across multiple product modalities.
- Independently lead cost productivity and Value Creation Programs (VCP) by identifying high-cost electronic components, evaluating alternatives, and driving implementation with cross-functional teams.
- Identify and recommend technically suitable Form, Fit, and Function (FFF) alternate components to reduce costs, mitigate supply risks, and address sole-source dependencies.
- Review electronic component datasheets, technical specifications, and application requirements to assess component suitability and support engineering qualification activities.
- Collaborate with Product Engineering teams to evaluate and qualify alternate electronic components for installed base products and New Product Introduction (NPI) programs.
- Support Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) redesign and component optimization initiatives to reduce Bill of Materials (BOM) costs while maintaining product quality, performance, and reliability.
- Evaluate electronic component lifecycle risks, including obsolescence and supply availability, and develop mitigation strategies through alternate sourcing and technology adoption.
- Perform component cost analysis and assess supplier manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for cost optimization without compromising technical requirements or quality.
- Support the introduction of new electronic component technologies and identify opportunities to improve product cost, availability, and long-term sustainability.
- Manage component engineering projects from opportunity identification through technical evaluation, qualification, and implementation, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Track project milestones, productivity opportunities, cost savings, and implementation progress while communicating updates to Engineering, Sourcing, and business stakeholders.
- Apply technical expertise, analytical thinking, and sound engineering judgment to independently resolve component-related challenges and drive measurable business outcomes.
Skills used in this role
What the employer is looking for
- Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering or a closely related technical discipline.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in electronic component engineering, electronics product development, or a closely related engineering function.
- Strong technical knowledge of electronic components, their characteristics, applications, and selection criteria.
- Demonstrated experience identifying, evaluating, and recommending alternate electronic components based on technical compatibility, cost, and availability.
- Experience driving electronic component cost reduction, productivity, or value creation initiatives.
- Ability to interpret electronic component datasheets, specifications, and technical requirements to support component evaluation and qualification.
- Strong project or program management skills, with demonstrated ability to independently manage cross-functional engineering initiatives from identification through implementation.
- Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) programs or introducing new electronic component technologies.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with Engineering, Product Sourcing, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and deliver results with minimal supervision.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience supporting electronic component qualification, PCBA redesign, and BOM cost optimization initiatives.
- Understanding of electronic component lifecycle management, obsolescence mitigation, and supply chain risk management.
- Exposure to electronic component supplier manufacturing processes, cost structures, and cost analysis methodologies.
- Experience managing multiple component engineering or productivity initiatives across different product lines.
- Familiarity with alternate component qualification processes and Form, Fit, and Function (FFF) assessments.
- Experience working in a global, cross-functional engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Green Belt certification or experience applying structured continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong organizational and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to prioritize initiatives and drive timely implementation.
- Proactive, self-directed approach with demonstrated ownership of technical programs and measurable business outcomes.
- Willingness to travel approximately 5–10%, depending on business and project requirements.
