About the role
The Market Intelligence (MINT) Data Science team is part of Walmart's broader Applied AI organization within Walmart US Tech, building competitive intelligence of retail items to support eCommerce and Marketplace growth. The team develops AI/ML products using Gen AI, deep learning, NLP/CV models, and traditional ML on large-scale retail data. This Senior Director role leads multiple teams of data scientists and engineers, shaping algorithm development and the next generation of competitive intelligence.
What you will do
- Coaching and developing high-performance team: Lead several teams of data scientists and engineers to ensure business deliverables are met. Train, develop and coach managers and individual contributors on technical and professional skills.
- Business Thought Partnership: Provide thought leadership and counsel to stakeholders in exploring possible data solutions to address business questions and business needs. Define problem statement. Translate business requirements into data / analytic strategies, initiatives, and projects, align them to business team’s strategy and objectives. Synthesize data from different sources, provide actionable business insights and / or analytic solution to stakeholders.
- Technical leadership for analytic community: Develop expertise of the data domains that are owned and / or related to the business function that this role supports. Train and coach analytic staffs in mastering technical knowledge of the respective data domains to deliver analytic solutions / insights for business stakeholders.
- Adhere to Walmart’s policies, procedures, mission, values, standards of ethics and integrity
- Adopt to Walmart’s quality standards, develop/recommend process standards and best practices across the retail industry
Skills used in this role
What the employer is looking for
- Bachelors/Masters/PhD from a reputed institution
- Minimum of 15 years of data science experience
- Demonstrated history of technology leadership and strong hands-on experience
- Proven records of scientific publications or intellectual property generation
- Past experience in strong programming skills across big data and ML engineering stack
- Strong communication skills with inclination to high ownership and commitment
- Option 1: Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 7 years' experience in an analytics related field. Option 2: Master's degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 5 years' experience in an analytics related field. Option 3: 9 years' experience in an analytics or related field. 3 years' supervisory experience.
