The work centers on large-scale, distributed data platforms built with Scala, Apache Spark, and Hadoop on Google Cloud Platform. This Staff Data Engineer role leads the design and architecture of those platforms, oversees batch and real-time pipeline development, and manages and mentors a team of data engineers while partnering with senior stakeholders on data strategy.
What you will do
- Lead the design and architecture of scalable, resilient, and high-performance data platforms on Google Cloud (GCP).
- Define and implement data engineering best practices, including data modeling, pipeline orchestration, and data governance.
- Architect solutions using Big Data technologies such as Apache Spark, Hadoop ecosystem, and distributed systems.
- Ensure alignment to enterprise data strategy, including data products, SSoT, and platform standardization.
- Drive end-to-end data pipeline development using Scala, Spark, and modern ETL/ELT frameworks.
- Lead development of batch and real-time data processing pipelines leveraging GCP services like BigQuery, Dataflow, Dataproc, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Storage.
- Ensure high code quality, performance optimization, and scalability across data systems.
- Oversee production stability, incident management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage and mentor a high-performing team of data engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, innovation, and technical excellence.
- Drive talent development, performance management, and succession planning.
- Promote a collaborative environment across cross-functional teams including Product, Architecture, and Business stakeholders.
- Partner with senior leadership to translate business priorities into data engineering roadmaps.
- Lead discussions with stakeholders on architecture decisions, trade-offs, and technology adoption.
- Drive platform modernization initiatives, migration strategies, and cloud adoption programs.
- Demonstrate an agentic approach—proactively identifying gaps, removing blockers, and driving measurable outcomes.
- Leverage automation, AI-driven workflows, and intelligent data pipelines to enhance efficiency and scalability.
- Champion data-driven decision-making and continuous innovation within the organization.
