The team collaborates with Walmart International, which operates over 5,900 retail units outside the United States across 26 countries. This is a hands-on Staff Full Stack Engineer role focused on building scalable, reliable systems across frontend, backend, and data platforms. The engineer will write production code, design architecture, build distributed systems with React, Java/Spring Boot, Apache Kafka, and Apache Spark, and mentor other engineers.
What you will do
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable full-stack applications using React and Java/Spring Boot.
- Build robust backend services, APIs, and distributed systems with a strong focus on performance, scalability, reliability, and security.
- Develop and maintain real-time and event-driven systems using Apache Kafka.
- Design and implement large-scale data processing and analytics pipelines using Apache Spark.
- Work across the entire technology stack—from frontend user experiences to backend services, data processing, and distributed systems.
- Take ownership of complex technical problems and drive them from design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
- Define and review system architecture, technical designs, APIs, data models, and integration patterns.
- Conduct detailed code reviews and ensure high standards of code quality, maintainability, testability, and engineering excellence.
- Establish and promote best practices around design patterns, coding standards, testing, observability, and CI/CD.
- Identify technical debt and drive initiatives to improve system quality, performance, reliability, and developer productivity.
- Mentor engineers through technical guidance, design reviews, code reviews, and hands-on collaboration.
- Collaborate with product managers, architects, and engineering teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Evaluate new technologies and approaches and drive adoption where they provide meaningful technical or business value.
