About the role
The Decision Science team at Walmart uses time series forecasting, machine learning and statistics to solve business forecasting problems within the supply chain process flow, building forecasting models and ML pipelines in a big data ecosystem. The role is a Senior Manager, Data Science based in the Bangalore office, contributing to forecasting, prediction and root-cause algorithms while collaborating with stakeholders in Bentonville. The position combines hands-on technical work with hiring, mentoring and growing a team of data scientists, and embedding data science into product strategy and decision-making.
What you will do
- Play a key role to solve complex time series forecasting problems, pivotal to Walmart’s business and drive actionable insights from terabytes of data
- Leverage data science tools and techniques, keeping abreast with the latest in the community to solve problems for Walmart.
- Work with team, businesss stakeholders and functionally develop PoC, present lucidly to the business and evolve the solutions
- Research, learn/disseminate & adapt new technologies to solve problems & improve upon existing solutions
- Brainstorm, review and mentor team in providing robust data science solutions
- Hire, mentor, and grow a world-class team of data scientists (individual contributors across levels).
- Define clear career paths, set high performance standards, and cultivate a psychologically safe and inclusive team environment.
- Balance hands-on technical engagement with effective delegation and team empowerment. Build a team culture grounded in curiosity, collaboration, and delivery excellence.
- Collaborate closely with stakeholders to embed data science into product strategy and decision-making from the ground up.
- Engage with Walmart's central ML Platform, Data Engineering, and AI Governance teams to align on tooling, standards, and responsible AI practices.

What the employer is looking for
- M.Tech with 9+ years of relevant experience in AI time series forecasting and machine learning / artificial intelligence
- Problem solver at heart with experience in Time Series Forecasting, Machine learning and Data Science
- Proficiency with Python/PySpark/BiqQuery etc
- Proficiency with ML libraries sklearn/pytorch/tensorflow etc
- Good knowledge of commonly used design patterns in data science
- Cloud friendliness (GCP/Azure etc) to leverage distributed computing/scalability
- Good communication/influencing/mentoring skills with inclination to high ownership and commitment

- Communicate confidently with VP/SVP stakeholders; synthesize complexity into clear narratives

- Drive alignment across Product, Engineering, Finance, and Legal without direct authority
- Minimum Qualifications:Option 1: Bachelors degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 5 years' experience in an analytics related field. Option 2: Masters degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 3 years' experience in an analytics related field. Option 3: 7 years' experience in an analytics or related field.
