About the role
Walmart Global Tech builds the platforms that power Walmart's stores and eCommerce operations across the world, and the Global Marketplace team focuses on Seller Platforms and interfaces that let sellers across multiple countries sell and grow their business on Walmart eCommerce platforms. The team leverages big data, machine learning, AI, real-time analytics, and high-volume, low-latency, high-availability services. This Principal Technical Program Manager role drives quarterly planning, solutioning, and delivery of large multi-team software programs for the Marketplace, working with architects, engineers, product, design, and business leaders across global teams.
What you will do
- As a part of the Marketplace Program Management team you will impact the shopping of our customers to build solutions that will enable a seamless, highly scalable omni-channel experience for a multi-billion dollar enterprise.
- You will work closely with architects, engineers, product, design and business leaders to ensure the successful completion of these programs.
- Your role will involve defining goals, stage gates, critical delivery paths, and key deliverables for large-scale programs that incorporate multiple programs with dependencies across multiple areas of work, timelines, and resource constraints.
- You will also establish a resource capacity allocation process and tool to transform the planning process.
- Drive quarterly planning efforts, effectively negotiate against priorities, resources, and timelines to secure commitments from partner teams.
- Create the environment for effective collaboration across 4ITB by establishing appropriate forums and enabling Ways of Working improvements.
- Establish processes that drive efficient planning and execution.
- Work with product and engineering in solutioning of new capabilities, driving clarity in product requirements.
- Create a detailed program plan with milestones and timelines and maintain program documentation.
- Resolve ambiguous situations and bring clarity to the program teams.
- Manage program scope, including changes and scope creep ensuring that the program stays aligned with its original scope.
- Monitor program progress against the established schedule and provide weekly status reports to the program stakeholders.
- Proactively identify potential risks and develop mitigation plan and manage cross-functional issues to unblock program team.
- Ensure monitoring and alerting are set up and ensure effective operational excellence frameworks are implemented.
- Ensure that the program adheres to the organization’s standards, policies, and best practices.
Skills used in this role
What the employer is looking for
- A bachelor’s degree in computer science/engineering or equivalent.
- Overall 15+ years of technical experience with 8+years of experience as a Technical Program Manager in software delivery within a related industry managing aggressive schedules and significant business impact.
- Experienced in system/platform design concepts, architecture, UX design, services, APIs, and technologies.
- Build positive relationships and collaborate with product managers to understand target personas and business process needs, which you will then translate into features and user stories that engineers will leverage to iterate products quickly.
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability, with a love for data and solving complex problems.
- Expertise in change & risk management methodologies, project management tools, techniques, project tracking tools, dashboards, and reports
- Strong communicator in both verbal and written forms and are equally adept in communicating upwards, outwards, and downward.
- Deep understanding of JIRA, JIRA Align, BigPicture, GenAI etc. would be advantageous.
