About the role

Data Ventures is a Walmart team that productizes B2B data initiatives to help merchants and suppliers make better, faster decisions. This staff software engineer role focuses on frontend engineering, building scalable React and TypeScript applications, design systems, and multi-tenant UI architectures. The role also involves API integration, accessibility, engineering standards, and mentoring engineers.

What you will do

  • Design, develop, and optimize highly scalable frontend applications and design systems using React, TypeScript, component libraries, and modern web standards.
  • Own complex technical solutions from design through implementation, testing, deployment, observability, and production support.
  • Define and influence frontend architecture across multiple products and teams, balancing scalability, accessibility, performance, and maintainability.
  • Build reusable component libraries, design system frameworks, and frontend engineering capabilities that improve developer productivity and accelerate product delivery.
  • Design and implement multi-brand, multi-tenant UI architectures using provider-based theming patterns and systematic design token systems.
  • Integrate frontend applications with backend APIs and data platforms, supporting real-time, streaming, and data-driven UI experiences.
  • Champion accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1/2.2) and ensure all UI solutions meet compliance requirements across products.
  • Collaborate with Design, Product, Backend, AI/ML, and Platform teams to translate design intent into scalable, accessible, and high-performance implementations.
  • Drive engineering excellence through code reviews, architecture reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, performance engineering, and operational best practices.
  • Identify and resolve complex production issues through structured debugging, root cause analysis, and sustainable corrective actions.
  • Mentor engineers through technical guidance, design discussions, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.
  • Influence engineering standards, design patterns, and best practices across teams.
  • Evaluate emerging frontend technologies and drive adoption of solutions that improve scalability, developer productivity, and customer experience.
  • Maintain architectural decision records and communicate technical decisions, trade-offs, and long-term implications to stakeholders.
  • Partner with Product and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into scalable, measurable, and user-centric frontend solutions.

What the employer is looking for

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience with significant experience building and operating large-scale frontend applications.
  • Expert-level proficiency in React (v18+),TypeScript, and modern JavaScript (ES2020+).
  • Deep understanding of design systems, component-driven development, design tokens, and multi-tenant theming architectures.
  • Strong experience with CSS, SCSS, CSS-in-JS, responsive design, and cross-browser compatibility.
  • Proven experience building and consuming enterprise-scale component libraries with a strong focus on reusability, scalability, and accessibility.
  • Strong knowledge of WCAG 2.1/2.2 accessibility standards, ARIA patterns, and accessibility testing tools.
  • Strong experience with state management patterns, REST and GraphQL API integration, and asynchronous data handling.
  • Experience with i18n at scale — i18next or equivalent, RTL layouts, and locale-aware formatting.
  • Working knowledge of frontend security — XSS/CSRF prevention, CSP, safe HTML rendering, and token/session handling
  • Familiarity with micro-frontend architectures, module federation, and monorepo tooling.
  • Understanding of web performance optimization — Core Web Vitals, lazy loading, code splitting, and server-side rendering (SSR) / static site generation (SSG).
  • Understanding of cloud-native development and experience with platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and frontend observability and monitoring.
  • Strong experience with automated testing — unit, integration, and end-to-end testing frameworks (e.g., Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright, or Cypress).
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to simplify complex UI/UX challenges and make sound architectural decisions.
  • Ability to influence technical direction across teams without relying on formal authority.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and raise engineering standards across the organization.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Passion for continuous learning, innovation, automation, and improving engineering productivity.
  • Experience integrating AI/ML capabilities or GenAI tools into software solutions is a plus.
