About the role
The Item Read Orchestrator (IRO) team powers Walmart's eCommerce experience by enabling fast and reliable access to item data across Walmart.com, mobile apps, and in-store platforms, spanning areas such as merchant tools, merchant data science, and search and personalization. The team builds high-throughput, low-latency systems using technologies including Java, Spring, Rust, reactive programming, Kafka, Cassandra, caching, Resilience4J, and Kubernetes. This Senior Software Engineer role owns feature and model delivery, writes reliable code across the full development lifecycle with CI/CD and automated testing, integrates AI/ML components, and contributes to solution design and code review.
What you will do
- Own scoped feature and model delivery through collaborative engineering teams, ensuring alignment with platform and system objectives.
- Write clean, efficient, and reliable code across multiple languages, driving full software development lifecycle including CI/CD and automated testing.
- Integrate AI and ML components to enhance software intelligence and development innovation.
- Participate in solution design, evaluating trade-offs and ensuring scalable, secure, and maintainable systems.
- Conduct code reviews, debugging, and defect management to maintain high-quality deliverables.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to translate business needs into technical requirements and measurable outcomes.
- Monitor application performance and support continuous improvement through proactive testing and observability.

- Proven expertise in object-oriented programming and documentation-based coding practices.
- Strong experience delivering scoped features and managing full software development lifecycle including CI/CD and automated testing.
- Proficiency in debugging, code review, and continuous development methodologies.
- Ability to design scalable, secure, and maintainable software solutions aligned with platform and business objectives.
- Experience integrating AI/ML components and leveraging generative AI tools to enhance development efficiency.
- Demonstrated technical judgment with sound decision-making and adaptability to evolving technologies.
- Effective collaboration skills with cross-functional teams and commitment to engineering excellence.
- Minimum of 3 years of solid Java experience and a deep understanding of the Spring Framework.
- Good knowledge of building high-throughput, event-driven architectures with Kafka and Cassandra.
- Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
- Option 2: 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
Preferred qualifications
- Master’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, information systems, cybersecurity, or related area and 1 year’s experience leading information security or cybersecurity projects
