About the role
NXP is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to drive development, enablement, and customer support of next-generation Board Management Controller (BMC) solutions based on NXP processors for data center and infrastructure applications. The role spans architecture definition, platform bring-up, OpenBMC enablement, server integration, customer engagement, and ecosystem development. The engineer collaborates closely with hardware, software, system architecture, product management, and ecosystem partners to deliver production-quality BMC reference solutions and customer-specific enablement projects.
What you will do
- Lead system architecture, bring-up, validation, and debugging of BMC platforms based on NXP i.MX processors.
- Develop and integrate OpenBMC software components including: Redfish, IPMI, MCTP, PLDM, Sensor management, Event logging and health monitoring.
- Enable and validate host management functions including: Power sequencing and control, Thermal management, Inventory management, Firmware update mechanisms, Remote management capabilities.
- Drive server platform integration using industry-standard interfaces such as PCIe, USB, I2C, I3C, SMBus, UART, Ethernet, and GPIO.
- Support DC-SCM and OCP-compliant BMC architectures.
- Develop Linux BSP and device driver enhancements required for BMC applications.
- Work with ecosystem partners and customers to customize and productize BMC solutions.
- Support customer design-ins, proof-of-concepts, demos, and technical escalations.
- Contribute to open-source communities and upstream OpenBMC development whenever applicable.
- Create technical documentation, application notes, design guidelines, and reference collateral.
- Participate in design reviews, architecture reviews, and customer workshops.
- Successful enablement of OpenBMC on NXP platforms.
- Delivery of customer-ready reference solutions.
- Reduction of customer technical escalations through proactive support.
- Successful upstream contributions and ecosystem engagement.
- Timely delivery of project milestones and customer commitments.
Skills used in this role
What the employer is looking for
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- 10+ years of experience in embedded systems, server management, networking, or platform software development.
- Strong expertise in Linux-based embedded systems.
- Hands-on experience with OpenBMC or similar management controller solutions.
- Strong understanding of: BMC architecture, Server platforms, Datacenter infrastructure, Out-of-band management.
- Experience with C/C++ programming and embedded Linux application development.
- Experience with Yocto-based Linux distributions.
- Strong debugging skills using hardware and software tools.
- Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and collaborative development workflows.
- Strong system-level problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently on complex technical challenges.
- Excellent communication and customer-facing skills.
- Ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive execution.
- Strong ownership mindset and willingness to lead technical initiatives.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with Redfish, IPMI, PLDM, MCTP, NC-SI, SMBus, or I3C.
- Experience with server hardware design and validation.
- Knowledge of PCIe endpoint/root complex architecture.
- Experience with security technologies such as: Secure boot, Root of Trust, TPM, Firmware attestation.
- Familiarity with OCP, DC-SCM, and Open Compute platforms.
- Experience working with hyperscale or enterprise server customers.
- Prior contribution to open-source projects.
