About the role
The Silicon and Platform Engineering Group (SPE) at Intel develops integrated silicon and platform solutions, spanning board hardware, firmware, validation, signal and power integrity, PCB technology, manufacturing, and system integration. The role focuses on end-to-end platform hardware development, translating platform requirements into circuit, component, and PCB specifications for high-speed digital, analog, and mixed-signal boards. The engineer will work through architecture, schematic and PCB design, board bring-up, validation, debug, and cross-functional execution.
What you will do
- Translate platform level requirements into circuit level, component level, and PCB design requirements.
- Design and develop complex platform boards incorporating high speed digital, analog and mixed-signal circuitry considering board/system-level design tradeoffs during development.
- Own schematic development for assigned boards, subsystems, and functional blocks, including component definition and selection.
- Develop electrical solutions associated with processors/SoCs, FPGAs, memory, high-speed interfaces, voltage regulators, clocks, resets, control interfaces, and platform-management functions.
- Define PCB implementation requirements, including component placement, critical interfaces, routing rules, stack-up considerations, and other layout constraints.
- Work closely with PCB layout engineers and guide board implementation from feasibility through design release/tape-out while meeting multidisciplinary platform requirements.
- Review complex multilayer PCB designs for electrical performance, signal integrity, power integrity, manufacturability, and system requirements.
- Apply high speed transmission-line and layout principles to critical interfaces.
- Apply signal integrity and power integrity principles during board architecture, schematic design, component selection, and PCB implementation.
- Design and review power delivery architectures, voltage regulation, sequencing, power budgeting, and platform power distribution.
- Work with SI/PI specialists to analyze critical high speed interfaces and power delivery networks and incorporate analysis results into board design.
- Understand platform level trade-offs involving electrical performance, power, thermal constraints, PCB implementation, component availability, and manufacturability.
- Develop and execute board power-on, bring-up, validation, and characterization plans.
- Collaborate with architects, hardware engineers, validation engineers, firmware engineers, technicians, and other specialists during platform power-on and debug.
- Troubleshoot board and system level problems and perform systematic root cause analysis.
- Use laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, logic analyzers, and other measurement equipment for electrical characterization and debug. Analyze failures, determine root causes, implement corrective actions, and drive issues to technical closure.
- Collaborate with silicon, firmware, validation, SI/PI, mechanical, thermal, PCB layout, manufacturing, supplier, and program teams.
- Incorporate feedback from verification, validation, manufacturing, and other stakeholders into hardware development and design improvements.
- Support PCB fabrication, assembly, design-for-manufacturability, design-for-test, and hardware readiness.
- Create and maintain design specifications, schematics, review documentation, design checklists, bring-up plans, validation reports, and other technical collateral.
- Own assigned hardware deliverables and proactively identify technical, component, manufacturing, and schedule risks.
