About the role
The team designs and develops systems and solutions that integrate software, firmware, board, and silicon/SoC components, with a focus on customer requirements across the systems lifecycle. The role sits in the data center systems space, building automation tooling for infrastructure bring-up, provisioning, telemetry, utilization, dashboarding, and monitoring at scale. It involves writing and reviewing code, deploying monitoring tools, and leading cross-team technical solutions for large-scale data centers.
What you will do
- Responsible for the overall design and development of systems and solutions that integrate software, firmware, board, and silicon/SoC components for a specific segment with specific focus on customer requirements and implementation limitations throughout the systems lifecycle.
- May also be responsible for systems architecture and definition, including translating the business opportunity into use cases and developing the product specifications for required hardware and software needed to deliver system requirements.
- Leads design, analysis, and implementation of component level choices across the integrated systems on performance, features, and cost including technical risk assessment and emphasis on ease of use, reliability, security, availability, maintainability, sustainability, and quality based on system or platform architecture specifications.
- Defines systems implementation and integration solutions and plans to ensure optimum performance and reliability across hardware and software that comprise the system.
- Delivers end-to-end technical solutions to solve customer problems, deploying solutions, executing benchmark tests, and preparing documentation.
- Collaborates with other teams to analyze next generation requirements and opportunities and may influence and guide research and academic collaboration on systems and solutions, including proof of concept and solutions beyond current industry approaches.
- Guides and conducts lab experiments of proof of concept innovations and new feature feasibility studies. Simulates real-life environments in the lab and analyzes performance of prototypes.
- Design, develop, and maintain tools capable of automating the end-to-end Data Center infrastructure build-up including system bring up, provisioning, Telemetry, Utilization, dashboarding, and monitoring
- Create reusable building blocks which are used to build larger management tools/frameworks to streamline the management of large-scale data centers
- Automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration, and monitoring using existing off-the-shelf tools
- Write high-quality, maintainable code to implement automation and infrastructure solutions
- Conduct thorough code reviews and uphold rigorous coding standards
- Deploy and configure infrastructure monitoring tools
- Develop monitoring reports and dashboards to ensure overall infrastructure health and performance

- Demonstrate proficiency in programming, with a strong preference for Python (though other languages like C++/Java may be considered, with willingness to transition to Python and golang)
- Utilize advanced debugging techniques, including debuggers and unconventional methods, to troubleshoot complex problems
- Exhibit deep knowledge of operating system concepts, especially on Linux platforms - operating system internals, OS configuration, networking, filesystems, and storage technologies
- Use source code management tools (e.g., Git, Perforce) and static code analysis tools (e.g., pylint)
- Implement infrastructure automation using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Ansible and Puppet
- Lead and influence multiple teams and stakeholders to deliver technical solutions to organizational challenges
- Proactive mindset, ability to lead/work with teams, and capability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills with clear articulation of technical concepts.
Preferred qualifications
- Knowledge of server platforms as demonstrated by hands-on bring-up of systems designed for cloud architectures
- Experience with Intel Data Center platform hardware
- Experience working with monitoring and visualization tools (Prometheus, ELK stack, Grafana, Kibana)
- Experience in scripting with Python
- Experience working with containerization tooling, deployment and/or support
- Familiarity with Docker and containerization, Kubernetes, CI/CD Tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD), Data engineering tools like Kafka, and ELK Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana)
- Understanding of network concepts and security best practices
- Experience working with embedded platforms
- Experience with microservices architecture and containerization of microservices
