About the role
Tesla's engineering tools team owns the Atlassian toolchain that thousands of engineers depend on for planning, documentation, code hosting, and service management. The role is a platform/administration position centered on Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, and JSM Data Center deployments at enterprise scale. The Staff Atlassian Administrator will architect configurations, drive automation and integrations, execute zero-downtime upgrades, and own incident response end-to-end for the platform.
What you will do
- Administer the full Atlassian stack (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, JSM) including project and space configuration, scheme management, workflows, permissions, and integrations
- Design and execute zero-downtime upgrades and patch strategies; own incident response for platform-impacting issues
- Build and maintain integrations between Atlassian tools and adjacent systems (CI/CD pipelines, GitHub, identity providers)
- Drive monitoring, alerting, and capacity planning to keep the platform performant and available
- Develop runbooks, operational documentation, and self-service tooling that reduces toil for end users and the team
Skills used in this role
What the employer is looking for
- 10+ years in platform or tools engineering, with 5+ years administering Atlassian Data Center products (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, JSM) at enterprise scale
- Deep, hands-on experience installation, configuration, upgrades, debugging, and custom integrations of Atlassian Tools
- Expert-level scripting in Python and Bash for Atlassian automation; fluent with Atlassian REST APIs, webhooks, and ScriptRunner (Groovy) for complex server-side logic
- Strong command of enterprise identity in the Atlassian context: SSO/SAML, SCIM provisioning, OIDC, and audit log analysis across products
- Track record of owning cross-product incidents end-to-end — from triage through resolution and postmortem and surfacing systemic fixes, not just restoring service
- Proven ability to translate vague stakeholder requests into well-scoped platform changes, and to produce documentation that reduces support burden over time
- Exceptional written communication: postmortems that prevent recurrence, runbooks engineers actually follow, and escalation summaries that give leadership the right context without the noise
Benefits and support
- Compensation and benefits are detailed in the job posting
