About the role
Cisco's Data Center Networking solutions team focuses on Software Defined Networking, building products that deliver ultra-reliable performance with scalable infrastructure and automation for modern data centers and cloud/multi-cloud environments. The team develops a comprehensive data fabric and intelligent data management capabilities that enable data-driven decision-making and high-impact product features. As a Software Engineer, you will design, develop, and operate backend infrastructure for large-scale data and compute workflows, working with a cross-functional team across the full software development lifecycle.
What you will do
- Involved in design and development of sophisticated and robust logic and backend infrastructure that supports large-scale data and compute workflows.
- Collaborate across teams to design solutions that meet performance, reliability, and security requirements.
- Contribute to the automation and optimization of engineering processes
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from ideation and design to deployment and monitoring.
- Help shape engineering standards, technical architecture, and operational best practices within the team.
- Writes functional clean code and unit tests with guidance.
- Performs parts of the coding, debugging, testing and troubleshooting throughout the development process under supervision.
- Applies depth of knowledge in secure coding principles and reviews others' code for compliance.

Preferred qualifications
- Minimum 1-2 years of full software development life cycle, including design, development, testing.
- Exposure to programming languages such as Go and Python, including leveraging AI-assisted development tools to write, test, and optimize code.
- Fundamental knowledge of Linux OS internals (such as file systems, process management, synchronization, multi-threading etc).
- Basics of Network concepts such as LANs, WANs, VLANs, TCP/IP protocols, routers, switches (Layer 2 and Layer 3).
- Exposure to working on Linux systems or environments with good debugging skills.
- Good debugging skills.
- Exposure to distributed systems, data center fabric solutions
- Knowledge of cloud architecture and services
- Exposure to Git source control management, build processes.
