About the role

Cloud Security Engineering at Cisco drives the technology that secures customers' networks and users, and this role sits within the SSE Control Plane organization, which designs, develops, deploys, and operates microservices for cloud network experience, traffic optimization, and insights behind products such as Cisco Umbrella and Cisco Secure Access. The position is aimed at a fresh graduate with a foundation in computer science, cloud technologies, and automation who wants to grow in the DevOps domain. The engineer will learn and contribute to CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, container technologies, observability, automation, and production operations while working with experienced engineers.

What you will do

  • Assist development and operations teams in building, automating, and improving software delivery processes.
  • Learn and contribute to CI/CD pipelines that support reliable deployment from development to production.
  • Support cloud infrastructure operations under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Help monitor application and infrastructure health using observability and monitoring tools.
  • Participate in troubleshooting issues across applications, platforms, and cloud environments.
  • Work with engineering teams to improve deployment, testing, automation, and operational workflows.
  • Learn best practices for cloud security, reliability, scalability, and incident response.
  • Contribute to scripts, tools, and automation that improve engineering productivity.
  • Collaborate with developers, DevOps engineers, and system administrators to support production services.
  • Continuously learn new technologies, tools, and practices in cloud, DevOps, and site reliability engineering.

What the employer is looking for

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Fresh graduate or early-career candidate with strong interest in Cloud DevOps, SRE, infrastructure, or automation.
  • Exposure to one or more cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure through coursework, projects, internships, or self-learning.
  • Foundational understanding of software development and operating system concepts.
  • CI/CD (Jenkins): Hands-on experience building/modifying pipelines for Docker, Terraform, and Helm; proficient in troubleshooting build/deployment issues.
  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform): Proficient in provisioning AWS infrastructure; deep understanding of modules, state management, and pipeline-driven deployments.
  • Containerization (Docker): Skilled in creating Docker files, containerizing multi-stack applications (Java, Python, ReactJS), and supporting VM-to-EKS migrations.
  • Kubernetes (EKS): Solid understanding of K8s objects (Deployments, Stateful Sets, Ingress, etc.); experienced in deploying and debugging applications on EKS.
  • Software Development (Java/Python): Proficient in writing and maintaining backend code; experienced in debugging application-level issues and integrating with RESTful APIs.
  • Familiarity with Unix/Linux systems and basic command-line usage.
  • Basic understanding of cloud computing concepts such as compute, storage, networking, and managed services.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Eagerness to learn, experiment, and adapt in a fast-paced technology environment.
  • Strong fundamentals in computer science and engineering.
  • Passion for automation, cloud infrastructure, and software delivery.
  • Curiosity about how production systems are built, deployed, monitored, and operated.
  • A learning mindset and willingness to take ownership over time.
  • Good collaboration and communication skills.

Preferred qualifications

  • Academic projects, internship experience, or personal projects related to cloud, DevOps, automation, or backend systems.
  • Familiarity with version control systems such as Git.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts such as DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, TCP/IP, load balancing, and firewalls.
  • Exposure to monitoring or logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, ELK, or similar platforms.
  • Basic understanding of microservices architecture.
  • Interest in cloud security, distributed systems, production operations, and reliability engineering.
  • Ability to learn new tools and technologies quickly.
